Organizations set out detailed rules over how and when committee members can be elected. These rules are usually standard. New nonprofit groups like ours will probably be looking for volunteers and parents to get more involved in running these committee groups, rather than having official formal elections. However, in the coming years other members may want to take over responsibility and action as an elected Committee Council member in which case an election is the fairest way of deciding so.
The Board shall assign one and/or two senior members to assist with the work of each committee (Chair & Vice Chair). As of August 24th, 2010 Lotus Tribe has established the grounds for 8 Standing Committees, and will continue to have a permanent Advisory Committee.
Committees that exist to accomplish a goal and then cease to exist, are called Ad Hoc Committees. These Committees are usually established when a certain problem arises, where a specialty team is needed to deal with the potential problem.
For ongoing, major activities, organizations establish standing committees. These are permanent committees that exist year round. The Standing Committee can make policy on it’s own.
